Opinião: Começo já por dizer que é importante que este livro acaba num cliffhanger, o que é excelente porque pode ser que venham aí mais. Faria todo o sentido. Foi uma experiência de leitura incrível, é efetivamente um Thriller Policial com cenas bastante gráficas, e um serial Killer, The Family Man, com claros traços de psicopatia e crueldade infinitas. Mas a estória é bem escrita, as personagens são muito cativantes e o Inspetor John Drake, passados vinte anos após as ultimas mortes vê-se a braços com um novo assassinato de uma família inteira e tem que decidir se volta a por em jogo a sua própria família e relações familiares e tenta desvendar este caso que o atormenta ou se deixa que outros façam isso. É que supostamente o Family Man está morto, então quem é que anda a matar de novo? Esta estória é contada em boa parte através de dois POV e a dois tempos, que se acabam por cruzar inevitavelmente e somos brindados com um final cheio de emoção, e muita ação, onde as vidas pessoais de quem tenta apanhar este assassino nunca mais serão as mesmas. Também aborda temas como saúde mental, racismo e abuso parental. Recomendo bastante, e quero ver mais do inspector Drake e da sua colega Ellie, uma colega nova que muito enaltece a estória e pelo meio e pelas reviravoltas, deixa passar uma mensagem do que ainda é muito a mentalidade de muitas localidades rurais por este Mundo fora.

ENG REVIEW: I’ll start by saying that this book ends with a cliffhanger, which is excellent because there may be more to come soon. It would make perfect sense. It was an incredible reading experience, it is effectively a Thriller with very graphic scenes, and a Serial Killer, The Family Man, with clear traces of psychopathy and infinite cruelty. But the story is well written, the characters are very captivating and Inspector John Drake, twenty years after the last deaths, finds himself faced with a new murder of an entire family and has to decide whether to put his family at risk again. and family relationships and try to unravel this case that torments him or let others do it. It’s just that the Family Man is supposedly dead, so who’s killing again? This story is told largely through two POVs and in two times, which inevitably end up crossing paths and we are treated to an ending full of emotion, and a lot of action, where the personal lives of those trying to catch this killer will never be the same again. same. It also addresses topics such as mental health, racism and parental abuse. I highly recommend it, and I want to see more from Inspector Drake and his colleague Ellie, a new pair of eyes who greatly enhances the story and, through its twists and turns, returns a message about what is still very much the mentality of many rural locations around the world. Jami – Rui Miguel Almeida – Intelectual Editora

É um banco que consegue sentir as emoções do leitor que nele se senta. Fala-lhe na primeira pessoa e apresenta-o aos seus uma árvore, um esquilo, um corvo e dois cisnes. Em seguida conta-lhe uma história de amor, que perdura por 50 anos, entre Luka e Mia. Uma história que teve Jami como cenário em momentos decisivos, tendo sido nele que tudo começou. O leitor fica a conhecer episódios de um namoro que deu em casamento, contra a vontade do pai de Luka, e que teve anos felizes e uma enorme tragédia que ensombra para sempre a felicidade daquela família.

À volta desta história central, outras se desenrolam, todas elas tendo em comum a nossa incessante procura de amor e aceitação, que Jami e os seus amigos comentam e traduzem à luz da sua realidade.

Opinião: Este livro foi dos poucos este ano que me fez emocionar ao ponto de estar de lágrimas nos olhos sem ter dado conta sequer… A Beleza com que nos é narrada, através da “voz” de um/a Banco de Jardim, Jami, uma das histórias de amor mais bonitas que li nos últimos tempos é de uma imaginação e sensibilidade brilhantes. A cada capítulo uma lição a aprender, uma perspetiva de o quanto como humanos temos tudo para sermos felizes e continuamos a sabotar-nos. Como as coisas mais simples da vida são as melhores que levamos desta nossa existência. Luka e Mia são o exemplo de resiliência, de amor puro e incondicional, mas também do respeito e da amizade. Com Jami e os seus companheiros de Jardim a contarem como tudo foi acontecendo durante cinquenta anos, vemos amizades a surgirem, desgostos e tragédia a pairarem no ar, mas o que mais me emocionou foi mesmo a beleza com que está escrita esta estória. A beleza, a naturalidade, a sensibilidade. O que Jami representa. Parabéns Rui, este livro merece estar em todos os lares do Mundo, e no que depender de mim irei recomendar a todos os que puder. Se ainda não leram, por favor, invistam e leiam, é mesmo muito muito bom, lava a alma.

Opinião: Depois de muito ter visto membros de um grupo internacional de Thrillers Psicológicos a que pertenço falarem sobre este livro, decidi que ia ser corajosa para o ler. E fui. Mas custou! E isto não é uma questão de triggers, todo o livro é um trigger, principalmente a quem tem estômago fraco e abomina violência mais que explícita. Digamos que ao pé do que li aqui os filmes “Saw” são para meninos. Tal como título do livro já deixa escapar, vão ser narradas aqui diversas estórias horríveis de abuso ( e abuso é dizer pouco) de crianças e do sofrimento que isso provoca nos seus familiares. É um livro extremamente gráfico, de uma violência quase insana que só vemos naqueles documentários true crime e definitivamente não é para todos. Apesar de tudo, e de toda esta violência, aborda temas importantes e reais (porque infelizmente já vi em documentários coisas similares) e a forma como as forças de autoridade, familiares e a própria sociedade se unem para que a esperança de um final feliz seja e esteja sempre presente. Será que vamos ter aqui um final feliz? Leiam apenas se conseguirem lidar com violência extrema (gore).

Eng Review: After seeing members of an international group of Psychological Thrillers which I belong talk about this book, I decided that I would be brave enough to read it. And I did read it all until the end! But it was painfull! And this is not a question of triggers, the entire book is a trigger, especially for those who have a weak stomach and is afraid of explicit violence. Let’s say that based on what I read here, the “Saw” films are for small kids. As the title of the book already suggests, several horrible stories of abuse (and abuse is putting it mildly) of children and the suffering that this causes in their families will be told here. It’s an extremely graphic book, with an almost insane violence that we only see in those true crime documentaries and it’s definitely not for everyone. Despite everything, and all this violence, it addresses important and real subjects (because unfortunately I’ve seen similar things in documentaries) and the way in which the forces of authority, family and society itself come together so that the hope of a happy ending is and always be present. Will we have a happy ending here? Read only if you can handle extreme violence (gore).

The Perfect Affair – Angela Henry – (Digital Kobo/ENG) – ARC Reading

Opinião: Este é um daqueles livros que nos deixa a pensar como é que algo tão banal (infelizmente) como as facadinhas no casamento de podem tornar um autêntico inferno. Como se podem perder vidas, de forma literal e não literal por causa de um deslize. Paige e Aaron, um casal como qualquer outro, com filhos, são postos à prova pela chegada à trama de Cara Morton (que não é quem se pensa ser) que transforma a vida do casal em um autentico inferno. Cara e Aaron aproximam-se demasiado e quando é necessário travar esta relação que está errada, já é tarde demais. No entanto isto é apenas ponta de um novelo de mentiras e de omissões que nos deixam completamente boquiabertos e cheios de vontade de ler até ao fim para sabermos tudo. Achei que existem algumas partes um pouco paradas o que pode eventualmente ser um dos pontos menos bons desta leitura, mas quando começam tudo a encaixar e a fazer sentido, ficamos satisfeitos com o resultado final. Eu recomendo e agradeço a oportunidade de ter lido esta ARC.

ENG Review: This is one of those books that leaves us wondering how something as banal (unfortunately) as infidelity in a marriage can become a real hell. How lives can be lost, literally and non-literally, because of one mistake. Paige and Aaron, a couple like any other, with children, are put to the test by the arrival of Cara Morton (who is not who we thinks she is) who turns the couple’s life into pure hell. Cara and Aaron get too close and when it is necessary to stop this wrong relationship, it is already too late. However, this is just the tip of a mix of lies and omissions that leave us completely open-mouthed and filled with the desire to read to the end to find out everything. I thought there were some parts that were a bit slow, which could possibly be one of the less good points of this reading, but when everything starts to fit together and make sense, we are satisfied with the final result. I recommend and thank you for the opportunity to have read this ARC.

Behind Closed Doors – B.A Paris – (Digital Kobo/ENG)

Sinopse: Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.

But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.

Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.

Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.

Opinião: Este foi possivelmente um dos Thrillers mais claustrofóbicos e que me deram extrema ansiedade que li nos últimos tempos. Após ter visto uma Opinião ao “A Criada” da Freida Mcfadden que recomendava também a leitura deste (@bea_triz_story) nem pensei duas vezes. Estória narrada a dois tempos, é toda uma espiral da nossa protagonista, Grace, cair na realidade de com quem casou. E não é nada do que ela esperava, nem sequer remotamente. No entanto, para o Mundo fora das quatro paredes da luxuosa mansão onde vive o casal, Grace e Jack são o casal mais que perfeito. No entanto, pequenas coisas vão sendo reveladas a terceiros, como ela não ter um telemóvel, nunca sair sozinha, cozinhar sempre de forma irrepreensível e só tecer elogios a Jack… e levanta suspeitas a quem convive com eles de que algo não está bem. Ninguém é assim tão perfeito… Grace também é a cuidadora principal da sua irmã com sindrome de Down (que não se encontra a viver com ela) e é aqui que as coisas ainda pioram… Adorei a forma como a autora coloca tudo em perspetiva, e como nos impele a ler até chegar ao final sem paragens, apenas queremos saber o que vai sair de toda esta trama que pode acabar bem… ou não. Grace é o rosto de muitas mulheres por este Mundo fora e consegui relacionar-me com ela, senti total empatia e proximidade. Talvez devido ao que a vida já me me fez passar. Recomendo muito, e sim, considero também melhor e mais emocionante que “A Criada”.

ENG REVIEW: This was possibly one of the most claustrophobic and extremely anxiety-provoking Thrillers I’ve read in recent times. After seeing an opinion on “The Housemaid” by Freida Mcfadden that also recommended reading this (@bea_triz_story) I didn’t think twice. Story told at two times, it is a whole spiral of our protagonist, Grace, falling into the reality of who she married. And it’s not at all what she expected, not even remotely. However, to the world outside the four walls of the luxurious mansion where the couple lives, Grace and Jack are the more than perfect couple. However, small things are revealed to third parties, such as her not having a cell phone, never going out alone, always cooking impeccably and only praising Jack… and it raises suspicions among those who are friends with them that something is not right. No one is that perfect… Grace is also the main caregiver for her sister with Down syndrome (who is not living with her) and this is where things get even worse… I loved the way the author puts everything into perspective, and as it compels us to read until we reach the end without stopping, we just want to know what will come out of this whole plot that could end well… or not. Grace is the face of many women around the world and I was able to relate to her, I felt total empathy and closeness. Maybe because of what life has put me through. I highly recommend it, and yes, I also consider it better and more exciting than “The Housemaid”.

Fear the Silence – Robert Bryndza – (Digital Kobo/ENG)

Sinopse: “Do you believe Will took his own life?”

The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital’s cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me.

When Maggie’s husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger.

Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn’t suicidal and had so much to live for.

After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.

As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past… Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.

Three can keep a secret… If two of them are dead.

Opinião: Este livro é a prova que existem livros que não funcionam com todas as pessoas. Comigo infelizmente não funcionou. Foi um autêntico suplicio chegar ao fim do mesmo. No entanto sei perfeitamente que Robert Bryndza é um excelente escritor e que apenas esta estória e personagens não me convenceram. Começo logo por não gostar da forma como a protagonista lida com todas as “desgraças” que lhe acontecem. O marido Will morre, supostamente suicida-se e deixa pistas (armado em espião) do porquê desse mesmo suicídio. Mas eu fui lendo, e lendo e lendo e Maggie vai para a Croácia tratar de assuntos relacionados com a casa de ambos lá e tudo acontece, mas é tudo tão estranho que quando se revelam algumas coisas senti que, “afinal era isto?”. Esperei sempre mais e esse mais não veio. Creio que este tipo de Thriller não seja mesmo para mim, não senti qualquer ansiedade ou suspense nem vontade muito honestamente de saber o que se passou na realidade, porque é tudo tão vagaroso, com descrições repetitivas e demoradas de coisas que não trazem nada para a estória em si que me senti presa e enrolada num fio sem encontrar a ponta. O final… bom é um final. Não aquece nem arrefece. Do ponto de vista da escrita está irrepreensível, mas esta estória e personagens e todo o enredo não me cativaram e por isso mesmo é um livro que não ficar na memória.

ENG Review: This book is proof that there are books that don’t work for everyone. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me. It was a real ordeal to get to the end of it. However, I know perfectly well that Robert Bryndza is an excellent writer and that this story and characters alone did not convince me. I’ll start by not liking the way the protagonist deals with all the “misfortunes” that happen to her. Her husband Will dies, supposedly commits suicide and leaves clues (armed as a spy) as to why he committed suicide. But I read, and read and read and Maggie goes to Croatia to deal with matters related to their home there and everything happens, but it’s all so strange that when some things are revealed I feel like, “was this really it?”. I always waited for more and that more never came. I don’t think this type of Thriller is really for me, I didn’t feel any anxiety or suspense or honestly want to know what really happened, because everything is so slow, with repetitive and long descriptions of things that don’t bring anything to the story. story in itself that I felt trapped and tangled up in a thread without finding the end. The ending… well it’s an ending. Does not heat up or cool down. From a writing point of view it is impeccable, but this story and characters and the entire plot did not captivate me and that is why it is a book that will not remain in my memory.

E Então, Lembro-me – Catarina Costa – Guerra & Paz

Sinopse: Laila acorda na cama de um hospital de uma cidade sitiada. Está amnésica. Uma série de pessoas como ela, a quem lhes foi extorquida a memória autobiográfica, vão parar a esta cidade, com o intuito aparente de servirem de mão-de-obra num complexo fabril.

Presos e forçados a trabalhar nesta cidade onde a lei é administrada por autoridades anónimas, os habitantes tentam entender quem são e de onde vêm. Estarão a ser punidos por serem presos políticos ou por serem criminosos de delito comum? Ou terão sido seleccionados de forma arbitrária?

Ao partilharem recordações fragmentárias e, muitas vezes, perturbantes, procuram criar uma imagem da sociedade a que pertenceram e de onde foram retirados, entre a realidade e a imaginação, a paranóia e o desejo. Ao mesmo tempo, reinventam a própria identidade a partir das narrativas que contam a si mesmos e aos outros sobre quem terão sido e quem poderão ser agora.

Laila, como os outros, tenta recuperar as ruínas do seu passado. Poderão estas protegê-la de um abismo maior?

Opinião: Uma excelente premissa que comigo não funcionou. Adorei o “Periferia” das mesma autora e também baseado em um universo distópico, mas não consegui adorar este. O primeiro grande senão são os capítulos gigantes. Eu sou leitora de capítulos curtos e o facto deste livro ser dividido em apenas três capítulos/partes custou mais a ler. O inicio é lento, demorado, apesar de interessante e informativo do que a autora nos quer transmitir. Não achei as personagens cativantes e os diálogos por vezes são demasiado “inteligentes” (não que exista isso de “mais inteligente” em literatura) e elaborados para dizer algo simples e básico. Atenção, que a Catarina escreve bem, sem qualquer sombra de dúvida, até demais tendo em conta o meu cérebro que custou a entender algumas das suas referências. Existe uma reviravolta mais para o final que muda tudo e que julgo ser o ponto fundamental para a compreensão desta obra, que efetivamente é mais que um romance distopico mas uma estória de humanidade ou a falta da mesma. Não vou deixar ilações sobre recomendação de leitura porque julgo que não fui de todo o público-alvo para esta obra, daí, não vos quero induzir em erro por uma questão que é apenas minha.

Coisas de Loucos: O Que Eles Deixaram no Manicómio – Catarina Gomes – Edições Tinta-da-China

Sinopse: Uma caixa de objectos abandonados no Hospital Psiquiátrico Miguel Bombarda contém as pistas para resgatar do esquecimento a vida de doentes que ao longo de décadas ali permaneceram confinados.

Coisas de Loucos teve origem na descoberta acidental de uma caixa de objectos de antigos doentes do primeiro hospital psiquiátrico português, o Miguel Bombarda.

Catarina Gomes inicia então uma série de investigações para encontrar os «loucos» a quem pertenciam esses objectos abandonados. Nascidos entre o final do século xix e o começo do século xx, muitos foram admitidos em «Rilhafoles», nome original do Bombarda. Os psicofármacos e a terapia ocupacional não tinham ainda sido inventados, e por isso o único «tratamento» que receberam foi o do isolamento.

Mas antes de serem forçadas ao confinamento estas pessoas tiveram família, amores, trabalho, tiveram planos de futuro. São essas suas vidas que Catarina aqui resgata do esquecimento.

Opinião: Este livro é possivelmente o meu livro de Não-Ficção deste ano 2023. Foi com enorme prazer que entrei através da escrita da Catarina Gomes nas vidas de várias pessoas que passaram por aquilo que atualmente se acha impensável. Mas reparem que há 100 anos até menos, todos os eventos narrados eram aceites e praticáveis. Através de um trabalho de investigação soberbo da Catarina e das demais fontes citadas, conseguimos absorver uma parte da história da saúde mental em Portugal que ninguém gosta de falar, de ver ou de sentir. Ainda hoje, 2023, a saúde mental é vista como tabu e motivo de desdenho por boa parte da população Mundial. Quando pensamos que homossexualidade, excentricidade, expressão artística eram tidos como loucura, e que ainda hoje existe esse estigma, dá azo a uma reflexão profunda do quanto afinal não evoluímos como espécie. Este livro é para se ler de coração e mente abertos, sentir através dos objetos as vidas (ou existência apenas) destas pessoas, que foram tratadas como tudo menos pessoas, seres humanos com direitos. Sempre ouvi histórias do Miguel Bombarda, contadas por este e por aquele, mas aqui ficamos mesmo com a perceção real do inferno pelo qual tantas e tantas pessoas que apenas eram “diferentes” passaram. E por lá forma esquecidos até morrer. Obrigado Catarina por homenageares estas pessoas desta forma tão bonita, dura e crua, mas bonita.

Opinião: Este livro foi efetivamente um turbilhão de emoções. Com uma narrativa rápida, bem escrita, somos logo desde o inicio impelidos a ler até ao fim para saber efetivamente quem são os culpados dos desaparecimentos recentes. Porque os desaparecimentos antigos, sabemos nós, e o culpado está encarcerado. Primeira coisa óbvia que me veio à cabeça foi um “Copycat” a querer vingança. Depois fui lendo e fui entendendo que íamos ter uma grande reviravolta na estória e a surpresa foi ainda maior do que estava há espera. Fiquei mesmo a pensar que ou ando destreinada ou fui mesmo enganada. É um excelente Thriller psicológico, não é previsível, e consegue dar-nos a perspectiva real do que as várias personagens passam para conseguirem sobreviver. Garanto-vos que nada do que parece é. Adorei!

ENG REVIEW: This book was truly a whirlwind of emotions. With a fast, well-written narrative, from the beginning we are compelled to read until the end to effectively find out who the culprits of the recent disappearances are. Because old disappearances, we know, and the culprit is in prison. The first obvious thing that came to mind was a “Copycat” wanting revenge. Then I read it and realized that we were going to have a big twist in the story and the surprise was even bigger than I had expected. I really started thinking that either I’m untrained or I was actually fooled. It’s an excellent psychological thriller, it’s not predictable, and it manages to give us a real perspective of what the various characters go through to survive. I assure you that nothing is what it seems. I loved it!

É o primeiro livro da Mikayla e acertou em tudo para que seja um bestseller sem qualquer dúvida! Personagens bem construídas, narrativa fluída e com aquele suspense e mistério que se quer num Thriller que nos prenda até ao Fim. Imaginem irem a uma bomba de gasolina com o vosso marido e de repente ele desaparecer sem deixar rasto? Como é que ficavam? É o que acontece a Bea, que não desiste de encontrar o esposo e com um possível culpado em vista, Lucas Choen, ninguém a consegue parar, nem o irmão que pertence às forças policiais, nem a irmã que lhe ampara as loucuras. Mas aqui, o final é de mestre. É que com tantas certezas que vamos tendo ao longo que Bea se coloca cada vez mais em perigo para descobrir a verdade, no final, nem ela sabe a verdade. ENG REVIEW: This book was a gift from the author, in exchange for an honest opinion. And here I am to give my honest opinion. What a good book! It’s Mikayla’s first book and she got everything right to make it a bestseller without a doubt! Well-constructed characters, fluid narrative and with that suspense and mystery that you want in a Thriller that keeps us hooked until the end. Imagine going to a gas station with your husband and suddenly he disappears without a trace? How do you feel? This is what happens to Bea, who doesn’t give up on finding her husband and with a possible culprit in sight, Lucas Choen, no one can stop her, not her brother who belongs to the police forces, nor her sister who supports her madness. But here, the ending is masterful. It’s just that with so many certainties that we have throughout, Bea puts herself more and more in danger to discover the truth, in the end, not even she knows the truth. I highly recommend it, it only exists in English but you can purchase it on Amazon, or for free with Kindle Unlimited.

Opinião: Este livro deu-me o que se chama “nó no cérebro”. É um Thriller psicológico, diferente, irreverente e com uma estória que em nada nos revela o que na realidade vai acontecer mais perto do final. Com uma escrita bastante fluida, a autora consegue captar o interesse do leitor até ao fim no entanto existem capítulos que a meu ver, não acrescentam nada e podiam não existir. As personagens são bastante interessantes, existe um cuidado em não banalizar as temáticas abordadas no livro e sendo que um dos temas abordados são as redes sociais e como estamos dependente das mesmas e expostos, e como expomos família e amigos, julgo que é uma excelente leitura e reflexão, tendo em conta tudo o que acontece.

ENG REVIEW: This book messed with my brain. It’s a psychological thriller, different, irreverent and with a story that in no way reveals what will actually happen towards the very end. With a nice fluid writing, the author manages to capture the reader’s interest until the end, however there are chapters that, in my opinion, add nothing to the story itself. The characters are quite interesting, there is care not to trivialize some of the topics covered in the book and since one of the topics covered is social media networks and how we are dependent on them and exposed, and how we expose family and friends, I think it is an excellent read and reflection, with everything that happens. I Recommend!

Opinião: Senhor Carter fez de novo! Mais um Thriller Psicológico intenso, cheio de reviravoltas e um final diabólico! Imaginem só confiarem a vida da vossa filha adolescente a uma família estrangeira, em outro país e vocês ficarem responsáveis pelo filho dessa mesma família? Até aqui nada de anormal, existem vários intercâmbios de estudantes que permitem essa experiência. Mas e se eu vos disser que aqui nesta estória, não há margem de manobra nem para respirar se querem sobreviver? Ambas as famílias escondem segredos que lhes mudam a vida para sempre de forma irreversível e cabe ao leitor saber que existem cenas bastante gráficas mas necessárias para se compreender até onde se vai para se esconder algo… Mais uma vez recomendo a leitura deste livro, e de TODOS OS LIVROS deste autor que são incríveis e uma leitura necessária para quem gosta de bons Thrillers Psicológicos de transtornar até a pessoa mais calma! ENG REVIEW: Mr Carter has done it again! Another intense Psychological Thriller, full of twists and turns and a diabolical ending! Just imagine entrusting your teenage daughter’s life to a foreign family, in another country and you being responsible for the child of that same family in return? Nothing unusual so far, there are several student exchange programs that allow this experience. But what if I told you that here in this story, there is no room for breathing if you want to survive? Both families hide secrets that change their lives forever in an irreversible way and it is up to the reader to know that there are scenes that are quite graphic but necessary to understand how far some people go to hide something… Once again I recommend reading this book, and ALL BOOKS by this author. A Gorda, a protagonista Gorda que entretanto deixa de o ser (sem deixar), sofre boa parte da sua vida o estigma que a obesidade ainda representa atualmente na sociedade. No entanto, Maria Luísa pegou nos limões que a vida lhe deu e fez a melhor limonada que os leitores poderiam beber. Nem doce, nem amarga, mas com a ligeireza e frescura que se quer numa boa limonada. Este livro ensina uma forma diferente de nos vermos, de amar e ser amado, de força e resistência, de paciência e perseverança, sem descurar as fragilidades que nos tornam mais fortes e nos motivam a ser melhores. É uma estória de amor, de ódio, de indiferença e de superação acima de tudo. Pelo menos esta foi a minha interpretação. Maria Luísa é uma personagem forte, poderosa, que pega em todas as suas fragilidades e adversidades e as transforma no que consegue obter de bom para si. Gosto particularmente que não haja pudor em escrever sobre a libido e sexualidade ambígua de Maria Luísa, a Gorda, que muitos ainda devem julgar que sendo rejeitada por um individuo seria rejeitada por todos. Não, não é. Adorei, recomendo muito, e obrigado à autora por este pedacinho de boa literatura, que sendo ficção, nunca me pareceu tão realista. Escreve-se tão bem em Portugal!

Com a sua mestria em reviravoltas incríveis, neste livro, Stella Hansen está completamente sem dinheiro para oferecer o presente perfeito ao seu esposo, no primeiro natal como casados, em que a mesma tem noção que o esposo de certeza se irá esmerar. Então, um milagre de Natal acontece! Mas tudo tem o seu “preço” e Stella infelizmente vai entender tarde demais que muitas vezes mais vale pouco e bom do que muito e… leiam É um livro bastante curtinho, mas eu adorei! Que bela lição de vida! Está incluído na subscrição Kindle Unlimited.

Opinião: Estreia absoluta com este autor, que costuma estar no grupo de Thrillers psicológicos que frequento. Estamos perante um bom Thriller psicológico, com todos os elementos necessários para nos prender à estória, com as devidas reviravoltas (e que reviravoltas) mas também por ser a primeira obra do autor, notamos claramente que precisa de amadurecer a sua escrita e a forma como descreve algumas das cenas narradas. Posto isto, eu gostei, as personagens são interessantes, uma mãe, Sonya, que pretende ilibar a todo o custo o seu filho da acusação de ter morto o amigo, filho esse ainda menor, e cujos segredos desvendados vão ser determinantes na vida de ambos e da comunidade que os rodeia. Não é um Thriller violento, adequado a quem quer ler algo leve mas cheio de suspense.

ENG Review: Absolute debut with this author, who is usually in the group of psychological thrillers I frequent. We are facing a good psychological Thriller, with all the necessary elements to hook us into the story, with the appropriate twists (and whatttttt twists) but also because it is the author’s first work, we clearly notice that he needs to mature his writing and the way in which describes some of the scenes narrated. Having said that, I liked it, the characters are interesting, a mother, Sonya, who intends to free her son at all costs from the accusation of having killed his friend, a son who is still a minor, and whose secrets revealed will be decisive in the lives of both and the community that surrounds them. It is not a violent Thriller, suitable for those who want to read something light but full of suspense.

Opinião: Segundo livro que leio de B.A Paris que me deixa completamente boquiaberta. Confesso que descobri mais ou menos a meio da estória o que aconteceu na realidade com a protagonista Layla que desaparece, mas mesmo assim não consegui perder o interesse nem tão pouco não adorar a forma como a autora dá uma reviravolta tão brutal, tão pesada mas ao mesmo tempo incrível na estória deste casal. Este é daqueles livros que quanto mais lemos, mais queremos ler e quando termina… parece que ficou um vazio no coração. Senti uma ligação bastante forte com as personagens, com o que a autora quis transmitir, e deixou-me com bastante vontade de ler mais, que já sei que não desilude. Recomendo e apesar de ter lido em inglês, existe em Português, com o título “Traz-me de Volta” editado pela Editorial Presença.

Opinião: BERROS. Mais BERROS. Este livro é só uma loucura do inicio ao fim. Eu tive vontade de atirar com o kindle contra a parede várias vezes, tanto era a frustração com o que Joanne, a protagonista, aturava da enteada. Ninguém atura o que ela aturou. Muito menos com os requintes de malvadez que Chloe aparenta ter contra a madrasta e a própria irmã bebé e a forma como manipula o pai. Este livro foi pegar e só largar no fim que nos deixa completamente boquiabertos e a querer uma sequela. Entendo que não haja uma sequela, porque é mesmo suposto ser assim, mas Meu Deus do nervoso literário! Estreei-me com esta autora, este é o segundo livro dela, e só vos digo que por favor, se gostam de bons Thrillers psicológicos, que dão aquele frio na barriga e nervos até ao final, então Nicola Sanders é para vocês! Ainda não existem, infelizmente, os livros dela traduzidos em português, existem no Kindle Unlimited.

ENG Review: *SCREAMS*. More *SCREAMS*. This book is “insanity” from the beggining ‘till the end. I wanted to throw my Kindle against the wall several times, I was so frustrated with what Joanne, the main character, was dealing with from her stepdaughter. No one can put up with what she put up with. Neither with the evil that Chloe appears to have against her stepmother and her own baby sister and the way she manipulates her father. This book was a one day reading , which leaves us completely amazed and wanting a sequel. I understand that there won’t be a sequel, because it’s really supposed to be that way, but my God, what a nervous meltdown it gave me! I made my debut with this author, this is her second book, and I’m just telling you that please, if you like good psychological Thrillers, which leave you with butterflies and nervous until the end, then Nicola Sanders is for you! Unfortunately, her books are not yet translated into Portuguese, but are available on kindle Unlimited.

Opinião: Este é o primeiro livro da autora Nicola Sanders. Comecei a ler com a expetativa bastante alta, tendo em conta o “Don’t Let Her Stay”, mas infelizmente este julgo que tenha sido o “ensaio” para escrever o segundo livro. Não é que não tenha gostado, longe disso, mas achei às vezes um pouco claustrofóbico, como acho sempre em todos os livros que abordem violência doméstica. A protagonista, vítima de violência doméstica, embarca num cruzeiro para fugir ao marido e acaba por ter que ser resgatada do mar (o ferry onde seguia é alvo de um acidente e naufrágio) e confundem-na com outra passageira do mesmo Cruzeiro, cujo casaco e identidade tinha em sua posse. Amy passa então a viver a vida de Liz, pensando que é apenas uma solução provisória para que possa refazer a sua vida longe de toda a violência que viveu, mas o que podia ser a sua escapatória acaba por ser a sua prisão. Tem o seu suspense e mais para o final umas reviravoltas que não esperava mas não foi dos meus favoritos, apesar de ter gostado. Só existe em inglês, li através do Kindle Unlimited.

Eng Review: This is the first Nicola Sanders book. I started reading with pretty high expectations, after “Don’t Let Her Stay”, but unfortunately I think this book was the “rehearsal” for writing the second book. It’s not that I didn’t like it, far from it, but I found it a little claustrophobic at times, as I always find in all books that deal with domestic violence. The protagonist, a victim of domestic violence, embarks on a cruiseship to escape her husband and ends up having to be rescued from the sea (the ferryboat she was on was involved in a accident) and she is confused after rescued with another passenger of the same cruiseship, whose coat and identity she had in her possession. Amy then starts to live Liz’s life, thinking that it is just a temporary solution so that she can rebuild her life away from all the violence she experienced, but what could be her escape ends up being her prison. It has its suspense and towards the end some twists that I didn’t expect but weren’t one of my favorites, although I liked it. It only exists in English, I read it through Kindle Unlimited.
